The Vikings are coming! The Vikings are coming! But don't expect them to resemble Hagar the Horrible. In this gritty actioner, starring The Lord of the Rings' Karl Urban, merciless berserkers battle Native Americans 500 years before Columbus got lost. ''In America, Vikings are portrayed like a promotion for a seafood platter for kids,'' jokes the German-born director Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). ''We have to put a little zest back into this Viking lore. It's a real mission I'm on.'' That included a hardcore three-month shoot in rainy Vancouver that landed 90 people in the hospital. ''In one two-day period, we had 20 broken or sprained ankles,'' Nispel admits. Sounds...a bit nuts. ''God, I would give my right arm for a write-up like: 'Pathfinder: Lord of the Rings by a Sociopath,''' he adds. Say no more.
